Letter: Support to Disdain for Cottagers Letter

1903

In support of Beverly Dywan’s Letter to the Editor regarding disdain for cottagers at this time, I’d like to express my support for her letter and feel that it’s important to reiterate that cottagers are as vital a part of the Northern Bruce community as full-time residents. “Cottagers” have much to offer during this difficult period.

While my husband and I may not technically qualify as “cottagers” as we spend more than 50% of our time here throughout the four seasons, we feel very much a part of the Tobermory community as do many other part-time residents. We have donated hundreds of books to the public library, we hire local tradespeople, we shop locally in order to contribute to retail services and have financially supported the Food Bank.

I am one of the many not quite full-time residents who have made masks for both full-timers and the Owen Sound Hospital and we have volunteered our services where needed. My husband, as a retired Toronto based general practitioner, has offered his services to the Family Health Team should they need respite or additional help.

We choose to be here – we pay our taxes, we buy our gas, we shop here and we contribute here. Let’s work together during this challenging time and not alienate one group from the next.
