Reading with interest and horror in the latest edition of the press, more expansion of the tour boat market in Tobermory and surrounding controversy.
Council and all of us should ask the more obvious question: what is our vision for this beautiful place of the world? Do we want to be a fast transit lane to a quick tour boat, helicopter ride and then a ride home (fast please!)? Or do we want to attract tourists who stay here for a while, enjoy a more leisurely way and appreciate the nature and this Biosphere, which UNESCO has granted us?
I for one recoil from a vision which sees even more tour boats and more attractions in the tiny village of Tobermory. What is the economic benefit for the region from this?
