On May 4, a crew from Tobermory United set upon the site of the Tobermory Thrift Shop at 7101 Highway 6 for its annual spring cleaning. Not only was the Thrift Shop thoroughly cleaned, but new lights have been installed, better to find the treasures within when the Thrift Shop opens its doors for the season on June 13!
The Thrift Shop will be open to receive donations during the Victoria Day long weekend. Donations may be dropped off May 18, 19 and 20 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Volunteering at the Thrift Shop is a great way to be part of a team and to meet folks in the community. I will once again be part of the Thursday crew! If you too might be interested in volunteering, please contact Tobermory United at tobermoryunitedchurch@eastlink.ca or 519-596-2394.
Spring Chicken BBQ May 15th
The chickens, coleslaw and potatoes are ordered, all manner of tarts are being prepared, and the volunteers are ready for the Spring Chicken BBQ that will be held May 15 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. In previous years, the BBQ was a sit-down affair, but the pandemic introduced the drive-through version of the chicken BBQ, and it’s stuck. Tickets are $25.00 and are still available. You can even get them on site as the BBQ unfolds. This year, there’s a vegetarian option too! Many thanks if you’ve agreed to volunteer or ordered your tickets already. A special thanks goes out to those who have donated a ticket so that a number of complimentary dinners can be distributed in the community.
Upcoming Special Services
In worship, we’re gearing up for a few special services. May 26, Brian Taylor and the Bluesky Day Band will warm the sanctuary with their music and stories.
A joint community service will be held June 16 to celebrate Chi-cheemaun weekend. This service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Light and Life Chapel.
June 30, Tobermory United will celebrate its annual Pride service.
As well, preparations are underway with St. Edmund’s Anglican to host Summer in the Spirit events Wednesday evenings through July and August. These events are designed to build community, honour the sacredness of place and celebrate Spirit. More details soon!
In the meantime, let’s all take time to marvel at birdsong and admire the shades of green that are emerging in our days.
