Summer in the Spirit is honoured to announce that the series will begin this year with a day-long community fire hosted in partnership with Nawash Three Fires on June 26. The event, which will be held outdoors at St. Edmund’s Anglican Church from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., has the purpose of community exchange. As April Jones of Nawash Three Fires says, “this is an opportunity for people to come and go and ask questions in a way that suits them… there is a spiritual connection in allowing space and opportunity.”

The community fire will begin at 9:00 a.m. with fire lighting, tobacco offerings and water teachings. At noon, there will be open discussion and storytelling, and at 6:00 p.m., all are welcome to a potluck community feast with prayers and a land offering. Folks may come and go throughout the space at any time during the day. Another community fire, with a similar format, will occur on August 21.

Summer in the Spirit is a series hosted by Tobermory United Church and St. Edmund’s Anglican Church , in partnership with other community partners, whose overarching purpose is building community, honouring the sacredness of place and celebrating spirit. Other events, including Brews ‘n’ Hymns, a forest walk, and a music evening, will occur on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer. Watch for posters soon with the official schedule!

Other exciting news at Tobermory United is that the Tobermory Thrift Shop opens for regular business on June 13! Every week on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through to September, the Thrift Shop, located at 7101 Highway 6, will be open for business from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Many thanks to everyone who has donated their household goods for sale! Donations will continue to be received Mondays and Tuesdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

All the churches in Tobermory are looking forward to collaborating on a service to celebrate Chi-cheemaun weekend! The service will be held June 16th at Light and Life Chapel at 10:30 a.m. The Ladies of Note will be performing in that service! A potluck finger-food time of fellowship will be held following the service.

Rev. Sheryl Spencer is the Minister at Tobermory United Church, 5 Brock St. She has office hours every Friday morning from 9:30 to noon. All are welcome to drop by for a chat or just to say hi!
